The City of Sumter's Growth & Development Department is dedicated to growing Sumter's economic and business climate. Our goal is to be of service to both national retailers and developers that are considering expansion projects in the Sumter market. Sumter is located in the geographic center of South Carolina and enjoys a moderate climate with mild winters. Sumter County's population is almost 107,000 and with the scheduled expansion of Shaw Air Force Base the projected population in 2010 will exceed 115,000

With more than 50 diversified industries including Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter's economy is growing and currently has over 43,000 persons in the local labor force. Retail sales for 2006 for Sumter County exceeded $1.8 billion dollars.
